Amid rising complaints of rainwater leakage during monsoons, the Railway Ministry has been urged to enhance maintenance facilities. A specialized committee has recommended the establishment of dedicated facilities at Mega Coaching Depots to mitigate these issues.
The committee's report highlights 'Rail Madad', the Railway's grievance redressal system, which receives numerous complaints about roof leakages. Such problems were starkly visible when videos of water pouring from the roofs of Vande Bharat and Jabalpur–Nizamuddin Express trains went viral, drawing criticism.
The committee emphasizes the development of workshops for inspecting roof leakages, which ensures passenger comfort, protects interiors from damage, and facilitates safe operations during adverse weather conditions. With railways' growing complexity, these facilities are crucial for proactive maintenance and operational efficiency.
