The government has increased the minimum support price for paddy by Rs 72, bringing it to Rs 2,441 per quintal for the 2026-27 kharif marketing season. The decision was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, promising a significant financial boost for farmers with estimated payouts of Rs 2.60 lakh crore.
In a landmark decision, the government has raised the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy by Rs 72 to Rs 2,441 per quintal for the 2026-27 kharif marketing season. This decision was confirmed during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The adjustment sets the MSP at a rate 50 percent higher than the cost of production, offering substantial economic relief to farmers. Both common and A-grade varieties of paddy will see this increase, reaching Rs 2,441 and Rs 2,461 per quintal, respectively, for the upcoming marketing season in September-October.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that this move could lead to an estimated payout of Rs 2.60 lakh crore to farmers, with an annual procurement forecast of 824.41 lakh tonnes, underscoring the government's commitment to supporting agricultural sustainability.
