The BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh's Jewar, Dhirendra Singh, has expressed serious concerns regarding the proposed toll charges increase on the Yamuna Expressway. He warns that such a hike could financially burden commuters, amid prevailing economic tensions.
In his communication with the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), Singh urged the authority and the state government to reconsider the impending toll hike, stressing its potential impact due to ongoing inflationary pressures. The global economic climate, marked by geopolitical tensions and volatile crude oil prices, is already straining local economies, including India's, he observed.
Singh highlighted that any increase in tolls would affect lakhs of daily commuters, ranging from farmers to employees. Given the expressway's role as a crucial economic artery for western Uttar Pradesh and the NCR, he appealed for sensitive, balanced decision-making prioritizing public welfare. The upcoming Noida International Airport and growing regional industrial investments are expected to further increase expressway traffic in the coming years, he noted.
