This decision was announced by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Maharashtra, addressing concerns over farmers' economic distress due to geopolitical tensions.
In response to declining prices, the Indian government has pledged to procure onions from local farmers at a rate of Rs 12.35 per kg, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan revealed on Friday.
This announcement was made in Satara, Maharashtra, a key region for onion exports, amidst a backdrop of financial challenges prompted by the West Asian crisis.
Chouhan, alongside Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, highlighted the impact of current geopolitical strains following US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran, which have disrupted onion exports, consequently lowering prices.
