The government of West Bengal has embarked on a thorough re-verification of all caste certificates issued in the state since 2011. This decision comes amid widespread allegations of irregularities that occurred during the leadership of the previous administration, as confirmed by a senior official on Friday.
The Backward Classes Welfare Department issued directives to all district magistrates, instructing them to commence the re-verification process immediately. The move follows persistent accusations of corruption and malpractice in the issuance of these certificates under the previous government's tenure.
State Minister for Tribal Development and Backward Classes Welfare, Kshudiram Tudu, highlighted the issuance of numerous fake and irregular Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and Other Backward Classes certificates. He indicated that swift actions would be undertaken against any officials found responsible for these discrepancies.
