In a pointed critique, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday condemned the central government's decision to hike petrol and diesel prices amid the ongoing West Asia crisis. Shivakumar accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to manage international relations effectively, thereby exacerbating the fuel price situation.

Addressing reporters, Shivakumar expressed skepticism over calls for reduced consumption, questioning the practicality of such measures for the common man. He criticized the government for not adequately addressing the consequences of global conflicts that have led to the escalation in crude oil prices, now surpassing USD 100 per barrel.

Despite the central government's assurance of stable fuel reserves, Shivakumar underscored the disconnect between policy and its impact on everyday life. This comes as geopolitical turmoil in West Asia continues to disrupt oil supplies, compelling Indian consumers to bear the brunt of increased fuel costs.
