Left-wing political parties, including the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist) Liberation, have called for an immediate reversal of recent hikes in fuel prices, arguing that the decision will worsen inflation and economic distress for everyday citizens.
The CPI(M) criticized the government's explanation for the price hike, stating it was misleading. They pointed out that oil companies had profited when global crude prices were low, and are now shifting cost burdens onto the public. The increase in fuel costs is expected to impact transportation, agriculture, and the cost of essential goods.
Additionally, CPI General Secretary D Raja accused the government of prioritizing corporate interests over those of common citizens, linking the issue to broader foreign policy failures. Both parties are urging the government to reconsider its policies and take action to address the resulting economic challenges.
