Dehradun experienced a significant surge in vehicular traffic as more than 45,000 vehicles entered the city, drawn by a weekend tourism boom towards Mussoorie, Chakrata, and Rishikesh, officials reported on Monday.
The increased volume included 13,500 buses and tempo travellers, 26,000 cars, and 5,700 motorcycles, with many heading to Mussoorie alone. The influx led to congestion on major highways, prompting the authorities to restructure traffic management plans.
In response, the police established four super zones, 10 zones, and 19 sectors to better regulate the flow, utilizing diverse routing strategies to prevent traffic jams. Real-time updates were provided to motorists via online platforms, and enforcement actions ensured no-parking compliance, enhancing safety and efficiency.
