A US delegation, including members from the Nuclear Energy Institute and US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, met with Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh to discuss new opportunities for private investment in India's nuclear sector, emphasizing the significance of the US-India partnership in science, clean energy, and emerging technologies.
An esteemed delegation from the United States, including representatives from the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) and the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), convened discussions with India's Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh. The central focus was the exploration of burgeoning opportunities for private investment and industry collaboration within India's expanding nuclear sector.
Dr. Singh underlined the robust and forward-thinking partnership that India and the United States currently share in the domains of science, technology, and clean energy. He highlighted how civil nuclear cooperation is increasingly becoming a cornerstone of strategic and economic importance. The meeting also marked a reference to the groundbreaking US-India TRUST Initiative, launched during a bilateral leaders' meeting on February 13, 2025, serving as a catalyst for collaboration across emerging technologies.
Significant developments include India's plan to amplify its nuclear power capacity from the current 8.8 GW to 100 GW by 2047, with the SHANTI Act, 2025, paving the way for greater industry and foreign involvement. Additionally, advances in Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and other nuclear technologies were discussed, with a shared resolve to deepen U.S.-India cooperation in various high-tech arenas.
