The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of road transport workers’ unions in Karnataka has announced an indefinite bus strike starting May 20, demanding a substantial 25% salary hike from the government.
If held, the strike is set to disrupt the operations of state-run transport corporations, including the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and its subsidiaries, affecting public transport statewide. KSRTC management warns employees against participation, citing disciplinary action under the Karnataka Essential Services Maintenance Act (KESMA), 2013.
Unions criticize the government's 12.5% hike offer and demand full arrears over 38 months. Talks for resolution continue as the government urges deferral to avoid ongoing examination clashes. Legal battles and negotiations with state ministers are underway.
