In a bid to curb air pollution and lessen reliance on imported fossil fuels, Indian Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, emphasized the acceleration of alternative and biofuel adoption. Speaking at the launch of Maruti Suzuki's inaugural flex-fuel car in India, Gadkari highlighted the significance of transitioning to cleaner energy sources.

During the 'India Goes Flex' event, Gadkari underscored the severe health effects of air pollution, noting that the transport sector contributes to 40% of it. He stressed that reducing pollution is a crucial goal within his ministry's purview, describing the car launch as a pivotal step towards cleaner air.

Gadkari discussed economic and strategic reasons for shifting towards alternative fuels, citing India's massive spending on fossil fuel imports. Stressing the need for an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), he urged increased focus on biofuels. With India's automobile industry now the world's third largest, the sector's growth remains integral to the nation's economic development.
