Hyundai, Nvidia, and South Korea Eye Major AI Hub

Hyundai Motor Group and Nvidia are in advanced talks with the South Korean government to establish an AI technology center in North Jeolla Province. The proposed facility aims to focus on AI, robotics, and next-gen technologies, leveraging local renewable energy resources. Hyundai Motor Group, alongside Nvidia, are reportedly in the late stages of negotiating with the South Korean government to set up an AI technology center. North Jeolla Province has emerged as the leading candidate, according to The Korea Herald, citing The Korea Economic Daily.

If greenlit, the facility would become one of the few Nvidia-backed AI research centers globally, with existing ones in Singapore and Taiwan. This development follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in October, fostering collaboration between Hyundai, Nvidia, and South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT.

Saemangeum, renowned for its expansive land reclamation project, is considered for the facility, underpinned by renewable energy potential that could support AI operations. The speculation is underscored by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's visit to Seoul, sparking interest in strategic partnerships, notably with Hyundai’s robotics affiliate, Boston Dynamics.
