Adani Ports Secures Landmark LNG Contract in Argentina
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. has won a 10-year marine services contract in Argentina for its first LNG export to India, marking a significant entry into South America. The deal involves a $70 million investment and is part of a partnership with the Meridian Group.
Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (APSEZ) has secured a groundbreaking 10-year marine services contract to facilitate Argentina's inaugural liquefied natural gas (LNG) export to India. This milestone marks APSEZ's strategic expansion into the South American market. The award was secured by APSEZ's subsidiary, Adani Harbour International FZCO, through a consortium with Argentina's Meridian Group. The contract emerged from a competitive global tender conducted by Southern Energy S.A. (SESA) and is backed by a significant investment commitment of USD 70 million.
Under the terms of the contract, the consortium is set to provide comprehensive marine services for the Southern Energy FLNG project. Crucial tasks include tugboat operations for LNG carriers, offshore logistics, supply support, and crew transfer services. The operations will be bolstered by a fleet comprising four high-specification tugboats, an anchor handling tug supply vessel, and a crew boat. The execution of the contract will be managed through Meridian Transportes Maritimos S.A., a joint venture wherein Adani Harbour International FZCO holds a 51% stake. Ashwani Gupta, CEO of APSEZ, stated, "This project underscores our capability to manage large-scale energy infrastructures across diverse regions. Our maritime operations span 12 nations, supporting various energy infrastructures from LNG terminals to offshore facilities."
Argentina is emerging as a formidable new LNG player, with planned export volumes to India anticipating up to 10 million tonnes annually by 2027. The Southern Energy FLNG project aims to bridge this burgeoning supply with global demand. The project is helmed by SESA, a collaborative venture between Golar LNG and Pan American Energy. "Together with robust local partnerships, we are constructing resilient maritime ecosystems to bolster stable energy trade corridors," Gupta added. Situated in the San Matias Gulf, Argentina's Rio Negro Province, the project will begin commercial operations in September 2027. In its initial phase, it is projected to produce 2.45 million tonnes of LNG annually, marking Argentina's foray into operational LNG exports.
