Expansion rate of eight core industries remained flat at 4.3 pct in FY 2018-19

The cumulative growth of eight core industries namely - coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertilisers, steel, cement and electricity improved marginally to 4.7 per cent in March 2019 against 4.5 per cent in March 2018.
According to an official data released Tuesday, the expansion rate of the eight infrastructure sector remained flat at 4.3 per cent in FY 2018-19.
Performance of Eight Core Industries (March 2019)
- Coal production increased by 9.1 per cent
- Crude Oil production declined by 6.2 per cent
- Natural Gas production increased by 1.4 per cent
- Petroleum Refinery production increased by 4.3 per cent
- Fertilizers production increased by 4.3 per cent
- Steel production increased by 6.7 per cent
- Cement production increased by 15.7 per cent
- Electricity generation increased by 1.4 per cent
A fall in production of crude oil and refinery products had dragged the growth of the eight core sectors to 2.1 per cent in February. The infrastructure sector growth will also have an impact on the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) as these segments account for about 41 per cent of the total factory output.
