Google Doodle celebrates First Day of School

Every year on September 1 in Russian schools and gymnasiums begins with a solemn line. For schoolchildren, the first call of the academic year 2018-2019 will be performed, and for the first-graders, the first call of their school life. September 1 is a state holiday since the times of the USSR. Approved by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on June 15, 1984.

Schoolyards are decorated for the holiday, it is noisy and crowded, it is customary to hold solemn lines on the First Day of School, where students read poems, perform amateur art groups, students are treated with a welcome speech and wishes to study "perfectly" by representatives of the local administration, teachers.

However, many schools in Russia have already switched to a 5-day work week, in which Saturday is considered the official weekend. Therefore, the schools themselves have to decide when to celebrate the First Day of School and start classes. In Moscow, the lessons in most school classes will begin on September 3, Monday.
