Ved Lahoti from the Delhi zone has made history by scoring an unprecedented 355 out of 360 marks in the IIT entrance exam, JEE-Advanced, officials revealed on Sunday.
The previous highest score was 352, achieved in 2022. According to IIT Madras, which conducted this year's exam, Dwija Dharmeshkumar Patel from IIT Bombay zone secured the top spot among female candidates with 332 marks, ranking seventh overall in India.
Additionally, four of the top 10 rankers are from the IIT Madras zone. Aditya from the Delhi zone placed second, followed by Bhogalpalli Sandesh from the Madras zone in third. Rhythm Kedia, Putti Kushal Kumar, Rajdeep Mishra, Koduri Tejeswar, Dhruvi Hemant Doshi, and Alladabona SSDB Sidhvik Suhas rounded out the top 10.
The majority of the top candidates hailed from the IIT Madras zone, followed by IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay. In total, 145 of the top 500 candidates were from IIT Madras, 136 from IIT Bombay, and 122 from IIT Delhi.
Interestingly, seven foreign candidates and 179 Overseas Citizens of India also successfully passed the exam. Indore's Ved Lahoti, who was a student at a coaching center in Kota, Rajasthan, attributed his success to three to four hours of daily self-study and strategic preparation.
Lahoti's father, Yogesh Lahoti, expressed immense pride, likening his son's accomplishment to a miracle and reflecting on Ved's inherent talent from a young age.
The criteria for ranking include aggregate scores from Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Over 1,80,200 candidates appeared for the IIT-JEE Advanced, with 48,248 qualifying, including 7,964 females. JEE-Main is the preliminary qualifier for advanced exams, held on May 26. Joint Seat Allocation (JoSAA) counselling will commence on Monday.
