Maoist Leader Pursues PhD from Jail

Jailed Maoist leader Arnab Dam, currently serving a life sentence, has been admitted to Burdwan University's History PhD program. Despite security concerns, Dam will attend classes under strict supervision. This move follows his successful performance in the university's PhD admission test.

Jailed Maoist leader Arnab Dam, who stood first in the PhD admission test at Burdwan University in West Bengal, was brought to the campus on Monday and enrolled in the course, an official confirmed.

Dam, serving a life sentence for his involvement in the 2010 attack on an Eastern Frontier Rifles camp in Sildah that resulted in 24 deaths, was present for the counselling session and took admission for the PhD program in History, according to Burdwan University Interim Vice-Chancellor Goutam Chandra.

He will attend classes two to three days a week under tight security measures. The university had delayed the admission process for History due to administrative issues related to Dam's enrollment.
