A six-year-old girl named Durga Kamar tragically lost her life when an iron gate and a portion of a boundary wall collapsed on her at a school in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district on Friday.
The incident happened around 1.30 pm at a government primary school in the Churiyar Para area of Nagri town, according to tehsildar Ketan Bhoyar. Durga, a Class 1 student, was playing after the mid-day meal when the gate she was hanging from collapsed, causing bricks to fall on her head and chest.
Despite being rushed to a hospital, doctors declared her dead. Durga belonged to the particularly vulnerable Kamar tribe and had only been admitted to the school a month prior. An education department official mentioned that prior requests had been made to higher authorities to demolish the unreliable boundary wall, and a technical report will be sought regarding the incident.
