Amidst heavy and continuous rainfall, authorities in Maharashtra's Raigad district have declared holidays for all educational institutions on Thursday. A similar directive applies to Wada and Vikramgad talukas in neighboring Palghar district. The India Meteorological Department's red alert prompted Raigad collector Kishan Jawale to take action, ensuring the safety of students by closing both public and private schools, colleges, and training institutes.
Heavy rainfall over recent days has led several rivers in Raigad to swell dangerously, disrupting communication networks, officials reported. Teaching staff have been requested to support disaster management efforts. Meanwhile, Palghar district's collector Govind Bodke issued a similar holiday directive for educational institutions in Wada and Vikramgad following an orange alert that warns of potentially extremely heavy showers in isolated areas.
Ground reports from local tehsildars confirmed the severity of the rainfall, leading to school closures to ensure public safety in the affected regions.
