IT Manager Arrested for Online Exam Cheating Scheme in Meerut

Three staff members, including the IT manager of a Meerut-based university, have been arrested for allegedly using remote access software to solve questions for candidates in the online CSIR-NET exam. Four candidates from Haryana involved in the scheme were also arrested. The Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force conducted the operation.

Three individuals, including the IT manager of a Meerut-based private university, were arrested for allegedly solving questions for candidates in the online CSIR-NET exam using remote access software, police reported on Saturday. The Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Task Force (STF) confirmed these arrests, which also included four candidates from Haryana.

The arrests took place on July 26 at Subharti University, where the exam was held from July 25 to July 27. The IT manager, Arun Sharma, alongside the computer lab assistant Vineet Kumar and a server operator at NSEIT, Ankur Saini, were among the key suspects. According to Brijesh Kumar Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police, STF-Meerut, the arrests were part of a broader investigation into gangs hacking online recruitment exams.

The suspects had installed an unauthorized system to remotely solve exam questions, with the candidates paying large sums for the service. Following a tip-off, STF inspector Sunil Kumar led the team that apprehended the seven individuals. A case has been registered under multiple sections, including the Uttar Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act and the IT Act.
