In a unanimous outcry, Lok Sabha members called for an investigation into the tragic deaths of three UPSC aspirants who perished in a flooded coaching centre's basement. The BJP has attributed the calamity to the negligence of the AAP government in Delhi, pressing for an inquiry committee under the Home Ministry.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav described the incident as tragic, demanding thorough accountability. Yadav queried, 'In Uttar Pradesh, bulldozers are run over illegal buildings. Will the same be done here?' During Question Hour, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan sidestepped a direct response regarding the deaths but noted existing government guidelines on coaching centre regulations.
The Delhi Police have since arrested the owner and the coordinator of Rau's IAS Study Circle on charges of culpable homicide. Congress MP KC Venugopal criticized the coaching centre's operations, saying, 'Without an approved building and facilities, some of these centres become mafia.' Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also urged for compensation for the affected families and preventative measures to avert such tragedies.
