Delhi Protests Erupt Over Deaths at Coaching Centre

The Delhi Police removed a few 'outsiders' from a protest site in Rajinder Nagar, where hundreds are seeking justice for the deaths of three civil services aspirants at Rau's IAS Study Circle. Students demanded better safety measures at coaching centres and have initiated a hunger strike.

The Delhi Police on Wednesday removed several 'outsiders' from a protest site in Rajinder Nagar, where hundreds have been demonstrating to seek justice following the deaths of three civil services aspirants at Rau's IAS Study Circle.

Over a dozen individuals were removed from the protest site as they were identified as 'outsiders' and not students of any coaching institute, a police officer revealed.

Meanwhile, a delegation of UPSC aspirants met MCD Commissioner Ashwani Kumar at the agency headquarters amid protests that have erupted following the death of three students at a coaching centre in the national capital.

The students approached Kumar to discuss the poor safety measures at several coaching centres that pose a threat to their lives, among other issues. A civic body official indicated that the meeting is currently underway.

More than 400 civil services aspirants have been protesting since Sunday under heavy police deployment to seek justice for the students who died at the coaching centre on July 27. They are demanding better facilities, emphasizing a non-political stance.

Protestors claimed that 'outsiders' have attempted to disrupt their cause by raising political slogans at the protest site. A coordination committee comprising 15 members has been formed to decide the future course of action and communicate with the authorities.

Senior police officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan, have been visiting the protest site to interact with demonstrators. Vardhan confirmed that committee members formed by the students had met Delhi LG and were informed about the ongoing investigation.

The Delhi Police questioned VP Gupta, the father-in-law of the coaching centre's owner, and four municipal officers are also being asked to join the investigation. Five people, including four co-owners of the building where the coaching centre was located, were arrested following the incident.

The flooding incident, which led to the deaths of three students identified as Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni, and Nevin Dalvin, occurred on July 27 when rainwater gushed into the basement of a coaching institute building in Old Rajinder Nagar.
