This Thursday, TMC MP Saugata Roy voiced strong accusations against the government, alleging that the education system has been reduced to a 'money-making enterprise.'
Speaking during a Lok Sabha debate on the Union education ministry’s grant demands, Roy, representing West Bengal's Dum Dum constituency, pointed to the absence of world-class institutions akin to Harvard, Cambridge, or Yale in India. He warned that the 'brain drain' of Indian students would persist without drastic improvements in educational standards.
Highlighting the insufficient budget allocation of 2.7% of GDP for education, Roy noted the worrying number of 8.96 lakh Indian students seeking education abroad. CPI (ML)-Liberation MP Sudama Prasad expressed concerns over rising education costs and the closure of schools for underserved communities, advocating for the cancellation of NEET and reforming the National Testing Agency due to recent exam paper leaks.
In defense, BJP MP Anil Firojiya credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reviving India's historic educational heritage, while Manvendra Singh Kang of AAP called for financial resolutions at Panjab University and asked for government support in competitive exam preparations.
