The Trinamool Congress's student wing, TMCP, gheraoed interim vice-chancellor Shanta Dutta at Calcutta University for over nine hours, claiming she presided over a key meeting despite her term expiring.
The protest began at 3 PM on Friday and lasted until midnight, TMCP spokesperson Abhirup Chakraborty reported.
"Given our semester exams and Dutta's health concerns, we did not continue the gherao indefinitely. However, students will prevent any future syndicate meetings chaired by Dutta, whom we decry as holding the post illegally," Chakraborty asserted.
