Patna Cracks Down on Coaching Centres in Basements

The Patna district administration, led by DM Chandrashekhar Singh, has initiated a clampdown on coaching centres operating illegally from basements. The move follows a tragic incident in Delhi. The administration is also launching an online system for swift clearances and asking institutes to adhere to safety norms.

The Patna district administration announced Sunday that any coaching centre operating from a basement will be sealed immediately.

District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh, driving the initiative following a fatal incident involving civil servant aspirants in Delhi, reported no current violations in the area. However, clear instructions have been issued to seal such establishments upon discovery. Singh emphasized that compliance with existing norms is non-negotiable.

Additionally, coaching centres have been given a month to obtain mandatory registration. The administration has received over 1,100 applications for registration and plans to introduce an online 'Single Window Clearance' system for all necessary permissions. Inspections revealed overcrowding issues and safety non-compliance, prompting mandated measures on space and infrastructure requirements.

Patna, a known coaching hub, draws aspirants for engineering, medical, and civil services exams, necessitating rigorous safety protocols.
