Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, MK Stalin, has taken a firm stand against the National Education Policy (NEP), referring to it as a 'destructive Nagpur plan.' He insists that the state will not accept the NEP, even if the central government offers Rs 10,000 crore in funding.
Speaking at a recent event near Chengelpet, Stalin criticized the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, for his remarks linking educational funding to the acceptance of Hindi and Sanskrit in Tamil Nadu. The chief minister argued that the NEP poses a threat to the state's educational growth by promoting privatisation and exclusivity.
Stalin's opposition is rooted in the belief that the NEP allows central dominance over education, introduces communal elements, and encourages examinations even for young children, resulting in barriers like the NEET for arts, science, and engineering courses. The chief minister reiterated Tamil Nadu's commitment to rejecting the policy, highlighting DMK MPs' resistance in Parliament.
