On Wednesday, police apprehended Jadavpur University student Soumyadip Mahata related to the unrest and vandalism on March 1, marking the second arrest in the case.
The incident erupted during TMC's West Bengal College and University Professors' Union AGM attended by Education Minister Bratya Basu. Students blocked the minister's vehicle, demanding immediate discussions on student union elections.
The protest subsequently led to arson as non-teaching staff's office was set on fire. A former student also faced arrest on charges of participating in the disturbances. Students Federation of India plans to deliberate on further actions amid tensions rising over student arrests.
