Revamping Education: A Decade of Progress in Haryana's Schools

Haryana Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda has voiced confidence in the progress achieved over the last ten years within the state's education sector. Addressing a calling attention motion by opposition MLAs, Dhanda detailed several initiatives aimed at enriching the quality and reach of education in government schools.
Currently, 14,295 government schools operate in Haryana, buoyed by a robust budget allocation of Rs 19,855.92 crore for the ongoing financial year. The state aims to tackle the pressing shortages of teachers, with a request for 4,780 new PGT positions submitted to the Haryana Public Service Commission in July 2024. So far, 1,704 recommendations were received, and appointments are underway.
The financial year 2023-24 included a comprehensive review of school infrastructure. Dhanda reported that improvements are being made, with Rs 473.44 crore earmarked for upgrading facilities such as classrooms and boundary walls. Drinking water, gender-specific toilets, and electricity connections are now standard across all government schools.
