Normalcy returned to Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Balasore on Monday, following the tragic death of a second-year integrated B Ed student. The 20-year-old woman set herself ablaze on July 12 after her allegations of sexual harassment by a faculty member were dismissed by the institution's internal inquiry committee.
The student succumbed to her injuries two days later. While classes resumed, the Crime Branch of Odisha Police intensifies its investigation into the circumstances that led to the self-immolation and subsequent death. Authorities recorded statements from staff and students as part of their ongoing probe.
The incident has drawn attention to the internal complaint procedures after the Internal Complaint Committee reportedly exonerated the accused Head of the Department of Integrated B Ed, Samira Kumar Sahoo. Meanwhile, senior officials are ensuring a thorough investigation, promising to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice.
