President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended heartfelt encouragement and best wishes to South Africa's Matric Class of 2025 as they embark on their National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations — a milestone marking the culmination of 12 years of formal schooling and personal growth.

In a statement issued on Monday, ahead of the first exam sitting on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, the President described the final exams as a defining moment in the lives of thousands of learners nationwide.

A Message of Motivation and National Pride

"You've got this, Class of 2025," President Ramaphosa declared in his message of support. "All your years and hours of progressing to this point in your education are assets that you can use to your advantage in these exams. As you apply 12 years of learning and exploration, you will be opening new doors to your future and to the success of our nation."

He praised the resilience, determination, and dedication that have carried learners through their schooling years, acknowledging the vital role of teachers, parents, and communities in shaping their educational journeys.

"Each of you has grown intellectually and emotionally during your years in school, and your families and communities have followed your journey with pride and support," he said.

Perseverance Through Pressure

The President reminded matriculants that the examination period can be demanding but encouraged them to persevere and maintain focus. "There will be moments of stress and doubt — this happens during high-pressure situations. But we know the odds are in your favour," he said.

Ramaphosa urged learners to draw strength from the knowledge and preparation they have gained throughout their schooling career, assuring them that their hard work would pay off. "Reaching these exams is an achievement of which you can be proud, and which gives the nation confidence that the Class of 2025 will move our nation forward. Good luck!"

National Support for the Class of 2025

The government joined the President in extending its best wishes to all matriculants sitting for their final exams. The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has reported that examination centres across the country are ready to accommodate the more than 800,000 full-time and part-time candidates registered to write this year.

Education officials have also urged learners to prioritise rest, healthy study routines, and mental well-being during the exam season. Special support has been made available through provincial education departments and helplines for learners experiencing anxiety or distress.

Umalusi Confirms Exam Readiness

In a reassuring development, the quality assurance body Umalusi confirmed last week that the 2025 national examinations are ready to proceed under secure and reliable conditions.

Following a thorough audit of the country's exam systems, Umalusi stated that the administration, conduct, and marking of the NSC examinations meet national standards. "We are satisfied that all necessary security protocols, moderation processes, and logistical arrangements are in place to ensure the integrity and credibility of this year's exams," the body said.

A Moment of Transition and Opportunity

The NSC examinations mark not just the end of schooling, but the beginning of a new chapter for learners — one that opens doors to university studies, technical and vocational training, entrepreneurship, or entry into the workforce.

For many, this milestone also reflects broader national progress, as South Africa continues to prioritise education as the cornerstone of social and economic transformation. The Class of 2025 represents the next generation of leaders, innovators, and professionals tasked with shaping the country's future.

President Ramaphosa concluded his message with a tone of optimism and national unity, saying the achievements of the Class of 2025 would stand as a testament to South Africa's collective commitment to education and development.

"As you write your exams, know that the entire nation stands behind you," he said. "We believe in your potential, and we celebrate your journey. Go out there and make us proud."
