A tragic incident unfolded at a government school near Patteeswaram where a Class 12 student died following an attack by 14 Class 11 students. The violent encounter occurred on December 4 during a clash between the classes, police reported.

The victim suffered serious head injuries after being struck with a wooden stick. He was initially rushed to the Government Hospital in Kumbakonam and later shifted to a private hospital in Thanjavur for advanced treatment. Despite efforts, the student succumbed to his injuries at around 2:30 am on Sunday.

In the aftermath, the Patteeswaram Police arrested the 14 accused, who have been placed in a juvenile home. Initially charged with attempted murder, authorities plan to reclassify the offense as murder following the post-mortem examination.
