The Lok Sabha has taken a significant step in transforming higher education by passing a resolution to refer a bill to a joint parliamentary committee. The proposed legislation aims to create a 13-member body to oversee and regulate higher education institutions across the country.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan moved the proposal, which was approved by a voice vote in the House. The government expressed its intent to submit the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill to a joint committee, comprising members from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
This move is intended to address current challenges faced by educational institutions due to regulatory complexities. The commission, led by a chairperson appointed by the President, will encompass all central universities and prestigious institutions under the Ministry of Education.
