The Enforcement Directorate has launched a probe into AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Kumar Mittal, targeting educational institutions promoted by him in Punjab and Haryana. These searches, conducted under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, involve 10 locations including Lovely Professional University, Tetr College of Business, and Masters Union College of Business.
The investigation focuses on certain overseas financial transactions of these institutions. The search operations have covered places in Jalandhar and Gurugram, and preliminary statements from some individuals involved have been recorded. Mittal, recently appointed deputy leader of AAP in the Rajya Sabha, is also the Chancellor of LPU.
Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has criticized these raids, interpreting them as BJP's strategy for the upcoming state assembly elections. Similarly, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal has accused the central government of misusing its agencies against political opponents, further intensifying the political drama.
