Kashmir's chief preacher Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday said the declaration of an educational institution in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian as an unlawful entity under the UAPA was a part of the policy of ''harrasment and disempowerment''. Reacting to the J&K administration declaring Dar Ul Uloom Jamia Siraj Ul Uloom, in the south Kashmir district, as an unlawful entity under the anti-terror law, the Mirwaiz also questioned the inaction of the elected government over the issue. ''First, we have multiple agencies chasing citizens under one pretext or another. Then properties of locals are confiscated. Students protesting alleged misconduct are booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA), send to jails outside, ruining their lives and careers. A sitting MP is denied bail to visit his critically ill father and now a leading educational institute with a rich legacy of serving the underprivileged and producing scholars, doctors, engineers, and professionals is declared unlawful under stringent UAPA!'' Mirwaiz said on X. He said the LG administration should tell the people how long such '' harassment '' would continue. ''Can the LG administration tell people of Kashmir clearly how long they will continue this policy of harassment and disempowerment? And can the elected Govt tell us how long they will let this happen?'' Mirwaiz added. Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg issued a two-page order based on the dossier presented by the senior superintendent of police, Shopian, pointing towards the alleged illegal activities at Darul Uloom Jamia Sirajul Uloom at Imam Sahib in the Shopian district in south Kashmir. According to the order issued by Garg on April 24, there were credible inputs and evidence on record to indicate sustained and covert linkages of the institution with Jamaat-e-Islami, which the central governemnt had banned in 2019.
