Australian varsity UNSW trains Indian students in children and family law

The University of South Wales (UNSW) in Australia is hosting students from V M Salgaocar College of Law in Goa to provide legal and practical training in various aspects of children and family law. The Australian university had in September signed an MoU with the law college establishing the Child Rights Comparative Clinical Development Programme, a unique cross-cultural clinical initiative.

Under the agreement, each institution will identify a select group of students to participate in a 10-day programme at the reciprocating university. While the Indian students are currently in Sydney, the students from UNSW will come to India in January, 2020. The varsity is also looking at opportunities to build research and education partnerships in India.

Australian Education Minister Dan Tehan was in Delhi last week where a delegation led by him explored potential collaborations between institutions of the two countries. The minister also met his Indian counterpart Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' where he discussed possibility of setting up offshore campuses of Australian varsities in India and vice versa.

According to Marc Williams, Associate Dean (International) Arts and Social Sciences and Professor of International Relations, the varsity has launched a new course Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE). "Students at UNSW can now pursue the same degree that has produced some of the most distinguished political and thought leaders from around the world, including a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. The course will draw together the perspectives of three crucial academic disciplines to address contemporary national and global issues, such as justice, inequality and climate change," he said.
