Black widow pulls Angelina Jolie in Forbes list of top-paid actresses

Johansson has played the role of the black widow in Avengers: Infinity War, which has been a big success this year.

American actress Scarlett Johansson has been promoted to the role of superhero Black Widow of Marvel in her film career to top the annual Forbes list of top-paid actresses on Thursday ahead of star Angelina Jolie.

According to Forbes calculations, Johansson, 33, earned USD 40.5 million in pre-tax revenues between June 1, 2017, and June 1 this year, which means she quadrupled her income from the previous year.

Johansson has played the role of the black widow in Avengers: Infinity War, which has been a big success this year and will return to the same role next year in the next production of Marvel Studios of Walt Disney.

Angelina Jolie, 43, has earned USD 28 million, largely thanks to her for the second part of the movie "Maleficent", due to be released in 2020.

Jennifer Aniston, 49, still making gains from Friends in the 1990s, came in third with USD 19.5 million. She also received funds from her support for products promoted.

Jennifer Lawrence, 28, starred in two unsuccessful films, Mother, and Red Sparrow, but the proceeds continued from her role in the X-Men series and decades with Christian Dior. Lawrence earned USD 18 million, or USD 6 million less than in the previous year.

Reese Witherspoon, 42, came in fifth with USD 16.5 million. The top ten actresses include Mela Cones, Cate Blanchett, Melissa McCarthy and Gal Gadot.

But last year's Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone was out of the list this year. The Forbes list is due for the top ten paid representatives next week.
