Sahastra Tal Trek Tragedy: Complete Rescue Operation Concludes

The bodies of all nine trekkers from Bengaluru who died during a trek to Sahastra Tal have been recovered. Thirteen trekkers were rescued safely, with assistance from Indian Air Force helicopters. The trekkers were on a 35-km trek from Uttarkashi but lost their way due to bad weather.

The tragic trek to Sahastra Tal that resulted in the loss of nine lives has now come to a solemn conclusion. Officials confirmed on Thursday that the bodies of all nine deceased trekkers from Bengaluru have been retrieved.

SDM Brijesh Kumar Tiwari noted that thirteen other trekkers were rescued safely, aided by Indian Air Force helicopters. The rescue operation has been officially declared over. The 22-member team embarked on a 35-km trek from Uttarkashi on May 29, but devastating weather conditions led them astray.

Among the recovered were individuals aged between 34 and 71 years. The Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed officials to ensure the safe return of the survivors and immediate repatriation of the bodies to the state.
