Security enhancements at the Ellora Caves complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Maharashtra, have been stalled because of financial constraints, according to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Despite a comprehensive security survey by Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Rural police, the recommendations remain unaddressed.

The suggested improvements include installing door frame metal detectors, baggage scanners, and CCTV cameras at various points within the site. Repairs to damaged sections of the compound wall and grille covers for water outlets were also advised. 'We are waiting for funds to implement these security measures,' commented the ASI official.

Meanwhile, provisional steps have been taken; a door frame metal detector has been placed at cave number 16, and handheld metal detectors have been acquired. Visitor statistics reveal that between March and November last year, the site saw 24.22 lakh tourists, including nearly 19,000 foreign nationals, an increase from the previous year.
