Amar Singh, a British Indian art dealer and activist, recently reopened his gallery in central London. His aim? To support LGBTQ+ rights in India with proceeds from upcoming exhibitions.
Singh’s relaunch of Amar Gallery featured a solo exhibition of works by Dora Maar, a celebrated French photographer, and painter. In September, the gallery will showcase paintings by American abstract artist Lawrence Calcagno, with a portion of the proceeds funding Singh’s activism in India.
“Equality matters for all people,” Singh emphasizes. Inspired by childhood visits to museums, he sees art as a powerful tool for change. Amar Gallery aims to correct imbalances by spotlighting overlooked artists often overshadowed due to their race, gender, or sex.
