Three workers lost their lives and several others were critically injured when scaffolding outside a 19-story building in a Swiss suburb collapsed, according to a statement by cantonal authorities on Friday.

The fatal incident occurred at a construction site near Lausanne, within the French-speaking canton of Vaud. All the deceased were workers engaged at the site.

In response to the accident, more than 180 emergency personnel, including numerous firefighters, have been deployed to stabilize the affected area and prevent further collapses, the statement added.
