Human Remains Found in Tenerife Likely Belong to Missing British Teen Jay Slater

A Spanish mountain rescue team in Tenerife has located human remains in the vicinity where British teenager Jay Slater went missing almost a month ago, local police confirmed on Monday. Evidence strongly suggests the remains belong to Slater.

The Guardia Civil police stated that Slater might have died due to a fall in the challenging-to-access mountainous region, though an autopsy will confirm if it was an accident. A police spokesperson informed Reuters that the body was discovered on Monday morning by the Civil Guard mountain rescue team. The family has been informed, and an autopsy is scheduled, after which the case will be transferred to a Tenerife court to determine the cause of death.

Jay Slater, 19, went missing on June 17 with his phone last traced to the Masca ravine in a remote national park in the Canary Islands. The search led by Spanish police was called off on June 30, but Guardia Civil officers continued a discreet search for 29 days. Slater's mother, Debbie, had recently arranged for a team of experts with specialist dogs to assist in the search.

'Jay is just a normal hardworking young lad from Lancashire who is very loved by all who know him,' Debbie Slater wrote, urging the public to pray for Jay and his family. The family was not immediately available for comment.
