Goa's New Heritage Policy: Safeguarding Monuments from Fire

Goa Archaeology Minister Subhash Phal Desai has announced the initiation of a heritage policy aimed at protecting the state's monuments from fire. Though the department has yet to audit all protected sites, it already undertakes repairs and restorations. Fire safety measures will be integral to the new policy.

Goa Archaeology Minister Subhash Phal Desai announced the launch of a new heritage policy aimed at protecting the state's monuments from fire.

Responding to independent MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Phal Desai noted in a written reply to the Goa assembly that while the department has yet to conduct a comprehensive audit of all protected monuments, it has already started necessary repairs and restorations where required.

The minister also confirmed that the state intends to integrate fire safety measures into the heritage policy, though no formal study has yet been conducted regarding fire incidents at historical sites.
