Anne Brorhilker, the former top German prosecutor known for her relentless pursuit of the 'cum-ex' tax fraud, has shifted gears to become an activist with Finanzwende, a Berlin-based consumer advocacy group.

In her new role, Brorhilker vows to combat the immense sway of lobbyists over financial legislation and aims to recover €28 billion ($30.53 billion) in lost tax revenues. She criticized the substantial influence financial lobbyists wield in Germany, which she believes hinders effective financial crime policing.

Her comments come as Germany faces budget challenges and scrutiny over its handling of financial misconduct. Despite taking a personal financial hit, Brorhilker said her new position allows her to speak freely and advocate for systemic changes.
