Devotees Flock to Temples for 'Sawan' Festivities

On the first Monday of the holy month of 'Sawan,' thousands of devotees thronged various temples, including Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi, to offer prayers to Lord Shiv. The month features special celebrations, including the kanwar yatra, and is marked by large crowds, security arrangements, and healthcare provisions.

On the opening Monday of the sacred month of 'Sawan,' a massive influx of devotees flooded various temples, including the renowned Kashi Vishwanath in Varanasi, to worship Lord Shiv.

The month, running from July 22 to August 19, comprises five Mondays, with the annual kanwar yatra—where devout 'kanwariyas' transport water from the Ganga River—culminating on August 2.

By early Monday morning, over one lakh devotees had already performed 'darshan pujan' at Kashi Vishwanath. The temple administration anticipates more than 10 lakh visitors by evening, a new record.

Arrangements such as air coolers and drinking water have been made, while the darshan and aarti are broadcast on large screens across the city. More than 2,500 security personnel are deployed to ensure safety.

Additionally, three health department teams, operating in shifts, and ambulances are stationed along the pilgrimage route.

In Gorakhpur, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath prayed for public welfare, while in Badaun and Ayodhya, chants of 'Har Har Mahadev' resonated as devotees offered 'jalabhishek' to the Shivlings.
