Massive Search Underway for Missing Assamese Composer Ramen Barua in Brahmaputra River

A significant search operation is ongoing in the Brahmaputra river for noted Assamese composer Ramen Barua, who went missing after leaving his Guwahati home following an altercation. His whereabouts remain unknown, with police and SDRF conducting extensive searches. The incident has garnered attention from the highest authorities.

A massive search was underway in the Brahmaputra river on Wednesday for noted Assamese music composer Ramen Barua, who went missing, police said.

Barua, 84, left his home in Guwahati's Latasil area on Monday morning after an altercation with a family member and was last seen heading towards the Brahmaputra near the new Gauhati High Court building, Police Commissioner Diganta Barah informed.

''On the basis of the questioning, we have come to the conclusion that he had left home as he was emotionally upset following an altercation with a family member,'' Barah stated, without specifying the individual involved. According to CCTV footage, Barua was last seen at 10.08 am on the road leading to the Brahmaputra, with his mobile phone tracked till one minute later, closely followed by K-9 units leading investigators to the river bank.

Barah noted that there is evidence suggesting Barua reached the river but no proof he returned. While not ruling out any unfortunate events, all angles are being considered as the SDRF conducts thorough searches downstream from Guwahati to Dhubri.

A missing persons' complaint was filed by his family when he didn't return by Monday evening. A renowned radio artiste, Barua has composed music for several Assamese films including 'Dr Bezbarua' and 'Baruar Songsar.' Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the city police to mobilize all resources for swift action.
