Harvey Weinstein Transferred to Hospital Amidst Health Troubles and Legal Battles
Harvey Weinstein, the infamous Hollywood producer convicted of rape charges, was moved to a New York hospital. He suffers from multiple health issues including COVID-19, diabetes, and spinal stenosis. Weinstein's conviction, thrown out by the New York Court of Appeals, may lead to a retrial. Further charges are expected as more women testify.
Jailed Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was transferred to Bellevue Hospital's Prison Ward in New York on Thursday due to several health complications, including COVID-19, his representatives confirmed.
According to the statement from publicist Juda Engelmayer, Weinstein, aged 72, is suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid on his heart and lungs, and recently contracted double pneumonia. His authorized representative, Craig Rothfeld, cited severe health issues as Weinstein's reason for hospitalization.
Weinstein, convicted of rape in New York and California, has consistently denied all allegations of non-consensual sexual encounters. His original 2020 conviction in Manhattan was overturned by the New York Court of Appeals, and a retrial could commence as soon as September. Prosecutors plan additional charges as more women come forward. Weinstein's case remains iconic in the #MeToo era, spotlighting sexual misconduct across industries.
