Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed profound gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring the inclusion of the Charaideo Moidams in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This 600-year-old mound-burial system, used by the Tai-Ahom dynasty, has made history by being the first cultural property from Northeast India to receive this prestigious recognition.
Union Culture Minister Gajendra Shekhawat personally informed the Chief Minister during a press conference. Sarma highlighted that the Prime Minister's recommendation was pivotal as only one site from a country can be nominated each year. The inclusion of the Moidams has brought great honor not only to Assam but to all of India.
The decision was finalized during the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee held in India. The Charaideo Moidams, which represent the architectural prowess and spiritual beliefs of the Tai-Ahom community, have now joined the revered ranks of other World Heritage sites such as Kaziranga and Manas National Parks in Assam.
