Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Friday that Assam's 'Moidams', the mound-burial system of the Ahom dynasty, have been officially included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

This is a momentous occasion for India, as the 'Moidams' are the first cultural property from the Northeast to receive this coveted designation. The recognition was granted during the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee (WHC) currently taking place in India.

Shah highlighted the historical significance of the 'Moidams', unique pyramid-like burial mounds used by the Tai-Ahom dynasty, which ruled Assam for around 600 years. He noted that this inscription will elevate the global prominence of Assam's rich history.
