Speaking at the unveiling of Gandhi's bust at Freedom Plaza in Edogawa, Tokyo, Jaishankar emphasized that solutions should not emerge from battlefields, reflecting Gandhi's timeless message of peace.
Jaishankar pointed out that Gandhiji's advocacy for sustainable growth and living in harmony with nature predates modern environmental movements. He asserted that these lessons are more pertinent than ever, urging individuals and governments alike to embrace sustainability in their daily lives.
Stressing Gandhi's influence, Jaishankar noted that India's independence spearheaded global decolonization. He regarded the event as a significant gesture in strengthening India-Japan ties and fostering community identity in Tokyo's Indian diaspora.
