The Odisha government has formed a committee to supervise the inventory process of the Ratna Bhandar at Puri Jagannath temple. The committee, headed by Justice Biswanath Rath, has recommended using advanced technology to explore potential hidden chambers within the treasury.
The high-level committee agreed on proposing the latest technology for a comprehensive inspection of the Ratna Bhandar. 'To clear such doubts, we have unanimously decided to recommend the temple managing committee to use the latest technology and non-destructive instruments for proper inspection of the Ratna Bhandar,' said Justice Rath.
'If any such chambers are discovered, appropriate steps will be taken; otherwise, necessary measures will be initiated for the repair and maintenance of the treasury,' Justice Rath added. Additionally, the committee has decided to relocate empty cupboards and almirahs requiring preservation and recommended modifications to the existing SOPs to cover these new aspects. The Odisha government has begun cataloging the ornaments and valuables stored in the treasury and is undertaking necessary repairs to the structure initiated on July 14 and 18.
